Uchence Wilson Gang Trial | Alleged gangster paid over $2 million to rent cars

As details of the alleged activities of the Uchence Wilson Gang continue to emerge, the Home Circuit Court was yesterday told that accused Fitzroy Scott paid more than $2 million for the rental of motor vehicles during the period December 2015 to May 2017.
This revelation came from an accountant at a car-rental establishment in the Corporate Area as she testified in trial of reputed gang leader Uchence Wilson and his 23 alleged cronies.
Referencing a contract between the company and Scott, which commenced on November 3, 2016, the witness said that it was extended on a number of occasions until it ended on May 8, 2017.
According to the witness, a Toyota Yaris motor vehicle was rented to Scott under the arrangement, and each time a payment was to be made, it was done in full.
On one occasion, she said, Scott made a payment of approximately $800,000 for car rental for 132 days, and on another occasion, $132,000 was paid for 22 days.
The contract, according to the witness, lists accused Derron Taylor as the secondary driver of the rental car.
In earlier proceedings, it was revealed by a Crown witness, who claims to be a former gangster, that the gang used a rented Toyota Yaris as a getaway car during the spate of robberies.
The witness had also told the court that Taylor was the driver of the getaway car.
Wilson and his 23 alleged gang members, which include four women and a policeman, are on trial for breaches of the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act 2014, commonly known as the anti-gang legislation, for crimes allegedly committed between 2015 and 2017.
They are also being tried for breaches of the Firearms Act.
