Portal coming for public to track gov’t projects online

The Government will be moving to increase transparency and provide more information to the public on all projects being undertaken at each stage of development via a web portal.
Speaking at yesterday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Information Minister Fayval Willliams disclosed that a US$1-million contract has been approved for Cambridge Resources International Inc to design, supply, and install the public investment management information system (PIMIS).
This, she explained, would run across Central Government, public bodies, and public-private partnerships, covering the various stages in the project cycle, including concept, feasibility, approval, monitoring, and implementation.
She, however, did not give a projected timeline for for the roll-out of the PIMIS.
Williams also disclosed that the Cabinet also approved a $77.7-million contract on behalf of the National Water Commission to carry out sewerage-improvement works in the Kencot/South Avenue/Lyndhurst Road/Melrose Avenue section of the Corporate Area.
Another $670-million contract was approved on behalf of the National Housing Trust for JH Dunstan and Associates Limited to construct a sewage treatment plant in Phase 2 of the Perth Housing Development in Manchester.
YP Seaton and Associates Company Limited has also been given the nod to supply material and conduct shoreline-construction works in Annotto Bay, St Mary, to the tune of $180 million under the Government’s Adaptation Fund programme.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also bumped up its original amount of $80,297,998.80 to $111,804,990.71 for phase two of the rehabilitation works on levels 7-9 at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St James. The contract for the repairing of the air conditioning and ventilation system at the hospital was also increased from $513 million to $662 million.
The Port Authority of Jamaica also got a variation for maintenance services for the X-ray scanning machine at the Kingston Freeport Terminal from the original contract of US$1 million to US$430,000, which was awarded to Newtech Company Limited.
Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited won an award of US$403,568.91 for the purchase and implementation of a voice-over Internet protocol system, which will be implemented in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security offices islandwide.
