Hanover closing in on 100% electricity restoration

With the Jamaica Public Service Company’s (JPS) August 12 deadline to fully restore electricity across the island now past, sections of Hanover are still seeking to address issues in some communities still without light.
Hanover was one of the parishes that took a significant hit when Hurricane Beryl devastated some sections of the southern part of the island, causing major infrastructural damage to include the JPS’s infrastructure.
Checks by The Gleaner have revealed that several communities in Hanover Eastern, and two on the western side of the parish, are still waiting for JPS servicemen to carry out the necessary repairs so that service can be restored to their community.
Some communities in Hanover Eastern that had their services restored over the last two weeks have again been plunged into darkness within recent days.
“I was called this morning by the operators of the Countryside Villas, in the Burnt Ground area, to inform me that the electricity service has been out again in that area since Thursday, and is still out as at today,” Wynter McIntosh, the councillor for the Chester Castle Division in the Hanover Municipal Corporation (HMC), told The Gleaner yesterday.
McIntosh further stated that the Knockalva Settlement area, also in the Chester Castle Division, is still without electricity.
Dave Brown, the member of parliament for Hanover Eastern, told The Gleaner that he is aware that the Great Valley area in his constituency is still without electricity.
“As far as I am aware, the commodity (electricity) is back in all areas except Great Valley,” Brown told The Gleaner, while noting that he was still making checks in other areas.
Andria Dehaney-Grant, the councillor for the Sandy Bay Division and deputy mayor of Lucea, told The Gleaner that her division is back to normal, except for a section of Mountpelier, which was restored but went out again.
“One side of the road from a section called Gaza all the way ‘round to the section called Hell-gate is out. Just that one side went out after the Mountpelier area was restored,” Dehaney-Grant said.
Tamika Davis, member of parliament for Hanover Western, told The Gleaner that as far as she was aware, only the Mount Pleasant and Blenheim areas within her constituency are still without electricity.
“I was in Blenheim on Saturday and in Mount Pleasant on Sunday, and those two areas are without electricity,” said Davis.
