According to theologian, organist, writer, humanitarian, philosopher, and physician Albert Schweitzer, “The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others.” Following that ideology with a vision to change a nation one presentation at a time is Canada’s number-one inspirational speaker, Alex Ihama.

Ihama recently visited Jamaica for a leadership summit, and Outlook caught up with the entrepreneur for a heart-to-heart. Described as a passionate and powerful speaker, he discusses serious topics by incorporating humour into his technique because people, he said, resonate with humour and passion.

It’s one thing to have knowledge to disseminate, but it’s another thing to keep the audience engaged. “(The) intensity and propensity of my messages is what makes me stand out among the rest. I get under your skin, in a challenging, thought-provoking but rewarding way.”

While he focuses on revealing clear-cut paths for his clients or audience, through tapping into their God-given talents, his own road towards self-discovery was a rocky one.

“I was always seen as a troubled youth, but in hindsight, it was because I was so inquisitive.” He was always questioning things, wanting to challenge the status quo.

In 2006, Ihama was going through massive challenges in his life and didn’t know where to go. While taking a course in technology at one of the colleges in Toronto, Canada, he went to the faculties looking for courses on how to beat procrastination, how to conquer fear, leadership courses. Here, they were teaching him technology, but the additional tools needed to excel in that field never existed. It is for that reason, he created School of Greatness.

“School of Greatness is unique. This is where we teach everything you need to know to be who we should. We train speakers, coaches, consultants, regular persons who have been through so much in their lives, how to use their stories to be a blessing to other people, how to tell their stories and how to make money from their stories.” At the School of Greatness, Ihama and his dedicated team help you to discover your purpose, develop your talents, and deploy it into the world. He offers his exclusive services to schools, churches, corporations, government, associations, and communities.

What has since shifted and shaped his thinking are his faith in God and personal development through the quest to know more, be more, do more, have more, give more. Passion, desire, and a hunger for knowledge also function as his shaping tools. “The conventional form of education is fading out, which is why we started the School of Greatness.,” he said to Outlook.

From life to business to executive coaching, the busy Ihama lives by the mantra: “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” This keeps the Canadian inspirational speaker going strong in his continually transformative journey.

In order to be a coach and a speaker, the man of purpose recommends that you be in tune with yourself, know and understand yourself, and aspire to achieve self-mastery while knowing life in the process. “If you are still struggling with your story, you will be unable to tell it. Imagine what you can do if you set your mind to it.”
