Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) has again won the coveted Port of the Year Award at the Caribbean Shipping Association's (CSA's) 46th AGM, Exhibition & Conference held last week in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The Jamaican terminal walked away with the trophy for the Best Multi-purpose Terminal after impressing judges from across the region with its excellent performance record for the year 2015. This was the latest in a series of wins, with Kingston Wharves having won this award in 2006, 2007, and again in 2010.

Each year, the CSA's Port Awards Committee compares the performance of participating ports to determine who stands above the rest. The committee looks at port dependability and flexibility, port efficiency and productivity, port growth and development, security, health, environment, and safety. It also assesses the improvement, performance, and security of the different ports and terminals, ensures its management systems are up to standard, and its corporate functionality is progressive.

From the inception of this competition in 1987, the CSA's Port Awards Competition has sought to promote the development and increased efficiency of port operations. It has served as a driving force for regional ports and terminal operators, encouraging and stimulating the development of best practices through the recognition of the outstanding performance of ports in key areas.

PROMOTE GROWTH

One of the aims of the competition is to promote regional growth for all ports and terminal operators in the Caribbean and Latin American region. This competition, therefore, serves as a significant marketing platform for Caribbean ports and terminals to introduce their development and expansion programmes to a global audience.

The Caribbean Port Awards competition has helped to attract new business for regional seaports and has helped to validate the efforts and initiatives taken by local port authorities and terminals to upgrade and improve their facilities.

Kingston Wharves Limited is one of the region's leading multi-purpose, multi-user port terminal operators, providing the importers and exporters with a broad range of cargo handling and logistics services and connections to over 20 international ports in the Caribbean and Latin and North America.

The transformation of the KWL Group has been more than 70 years in the making. The company's current expansion and modernisation projects are intended to maintain its competitive position in the region while providing first-class logistics services to drive its transition to a lead logistics provider.

KWL's strategic location, highly connected port-terminal services, and modern logistics facilities operating under special economic zone status offer advantageous value proposition to its clients to streamline efficiencies in cargo-supply chains.
