On March 23, 2018, Shipping Association of Jamaica member company Jamaica Freight and Shipping Limited welcomed the Polarcus Adira, a 3D seismic vessel, which will carry out a seismic survey in the southern Jamaican waters to determine the way forward for the Government of Jamaica's oil and gas exploration programme.

The crew of the Polarcus Adira are working on behalf of Tullow Oil, a marine geophysical company, which will be in Jamaica for approximately 60 days, after which the data will be analysed to identify potential oil and gas reservoirs.

HOPING FOR SUCCESS

Mrs Marjory Kennedy, director of Jamaica Freight and Shipping Company Limited, said, "Jamaica Freight is very pleased to facilitate the work of Polarcus US Inc on behalf of Tullow Oil and the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica. We hope that they will have a very successful survey." The welcoming delegation was led by Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Dr Andre Wheatley, who expressed cautious optimism at the prospect of finding the precious resources in Jamaican waters.
