The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) welcomed a delegation from the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) to discuss matters related to the maritime sector last Thursday, May 17.

The visiting group, which was hosted by the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), met with the SAJ Vice-President Corah Ann Robertson Sylvester, Chief Executive Officer Trevor Riley, and Deputy General Manager Terrence Brooks.

The ILA group compromised Vice-President Kenneth Riley; ILA 1359-1860 President Richard Ross; and ILA 1410 President Mark Bass. UCASE was represented by President Vincent Morrison; General Secretary John Levy, and industrial relations officer Robert Harris.

The meeting with the SAJ, Jamaica’s foremost industrial relations body, formed part of the delegation’s three-day trip that also included a tour of the Port of Kingston, discussions with Kingston Wharves Limited, and a meeting with Minister of Labour and Social Security Karl Samuda.

The ILA is the largest union of maritime workers in North America and represents over 70,000 longshoremen.
