The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) will host a three-day comprehensive workshop on the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code to equip professionals with the skills to safely handle and manage dangerous goods.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday, July 6, from 9a.m. to 3 p.m.

The workshop aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills pertaining to the safe transportation and handling of hazardous materials in the maritime and related industries. The 20-hour course is a collaboration between the SAJ and the Caribbean Maritime University, which will facilitate and certify the training.

The IMDG Code is an internationally recognised set of guidelines established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to ensure the safe carriage of dangerous goods by sea and prevent pollution. Compliance with these regulations is crucial to protect both human lives and the marine environment.

The workshop will cover various aspects of the IMDG Code, including the international legal framework for the transportation of dangerous goods; classification, packaging, labelling, stowage and segregation, transport documentation, and emergency response. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the code’s requirements, enabling them to handle dangerous goods safely and efficiently.

The benefits of the IMDG workshop extend beyond compliance with international regulations. Participants will acquire practical skills and knowledge that can enhance their overall operational efficiency and contribute to the safety and security of their respective organisations.

The workshop is open to professionals across the maritime and related industries, including freight forwarders, port operators, and logistics providers. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.
