Get out your tux for the Mayor's Charity Ball

Framed as a black-tie affair, western Jamaica is already excited by the thought of dressing up for the inaugural Mayor's Charity Ball, being staged by Mayor of Montego Bay Councillor Homer Davis.
Launched on Wednesday at Pier 1, on the waterfront in the tourism capital, the event is targeting some 500 patrons and will make its debut at the elegant Half Moon Conference Centre in Rose Hall, on Saturday, December 2.
With just four weeks to go, Davis is inviting Montegonians to "get out your tux as we raise funds for those in need among us, from all constituencies in St James."
The mayor stated that the funds raised from the event would be used in a non-partisan way to treat approximately 4,000 children and elderly in the western parish during the Christmas season.
Confirmed A-listers
A-listers confirmed to walk the red carpet include: Chinese ambassador to Jamaica, Niu Qingbao, who has been billed as the keynote speaker; and Nigerian high commissioner to Jamaica Janet Olisa, and her husband, Dada.
Davis revealed a strong group of event planners who are steering the committee responsible for hosting the event. They include chairman Dwight 'Debo' Crawford; parish councillor, businessman, Robert Russell; Dr Carleene Grant-Davis, head of the paediatric unit at the Cornwall Regional Hospital; Jamaica Cultural Development Commission commissioner, Mexine Bisasor; Montego Bay Convention Centre's Odette Dyer; and St James Municipal Council's Margaret Treleven and Garfield Ustanny.
