Celebrating Africa Day
Nigerian High Commissioner Janet Olisa made her diplomatic home a land without borders for representatives of African countries who represented in their traditional garb to celebrate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963.
Supporters of the OAU, now known as the African Union, came out to celebrate this monumental day. They are still focused on Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, as presented during their 50th celebration of the African Union in 2013. New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) continues to play an integral role in this endeavour. The reception was held not only to celebrate, but to encourage country representatives to mingle and discuss developments on the African continent towards the realisation of 'Silencing the Guns' by 2020.
The reception's brief formalities highlighted the continued work, and these goals were sealed with cake cutting by High Commissioner Olisa, South African Charge d'Affaires Phillip Riley, Honorary Consul to Ethiopia Yodit Hylton and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Marcia Gilbert-Roberts.
After, guests and representatives from Sierra Leone, Guinea, South Africa and other countries discussed for the future of their nations.
