A sexy start for MoDa

On Tuesday, the Collection MoDa Runway transformed The Jamaica Pegasus ballroom into a frenzy of patterns, imported fabric, and not to mention the glamorous people who turned out, all in the name of high fashion.
Each year, the MoDa Runway attracts some of the regions hottest designers who have captured the unique and diverse style of the Caribbean. Ten designers showcased their interpretation of fashion infused with the history of their individual cultures and personal style. With the theme, 'Her', the MoDa Runway was both elegant and captivating as it transitioned among the designers.
MoDa Runway was off to a suave and sophisticated start as Tessanne Chin and Michael Shawn Harris performed an elegant duet which left the crowd in awe. The sweet combination of vibrant harmonies made their upbeat rendition of a number of classics the perfect opening for the designers. The live E-park Band, bellowed a dynamic mixture of jazz and pop as the crowd geared up to see the creations from the designers.
Bold, captivating designs
Yumi Katsura opened the show with a plethora of feathers, ruffles, layers, and lace. Her Asian-inspired line flowed like water with every movement as she introduced pieces that were both elegant with sweetheart necklines and a few that were bold and ultra-chic. Flower Child brought back the '70's with her easy-breezy, free-spirited line that had both soft and edgy pieces. Designer Kahindo, featured an energetic and bright collection which kept the eyes busy with its bold prints and intricate details.
Jae Jolly's tropical and beachy designs, had many in the audience longing for a wide-brim straw hat with a pina colada in hand. Satta Andino, made his Native American Indian designs stand out from the group with its cowboy drabbed fabric and fringes. Trefle brought her British Virgin Island heritage onstage with European designs inspired by the tropics. Drenna Luna brought love to the stage with a number of classy, delicate wedding gowns with extravagant beading, lace and sheer fabric.
House of Byfield's Afrocentric designs focused on the formal and semi-formal male attire. Korto Momolu's hardcore rap inspiration paid incredible attention to detail with every piece. The designer's fun-loving spirit was evident as the models strutted in her designs with confidence. Raphelita's Avant Garde designs were inspired by the Jamaican Dancehall Queen street style which ended the show.
The Collection MoDa Runway was a huge success which kick-started the MoDa platform.
