Tuesday Talk

1. So churches are now in a bidding war for funerals. It seems that there is tons of money to be made from performing funeral rites for non-members, or non-believers. The more notorious the deceased, the greater the desire to host the funeral. Could it be the money then? Or is it a chance to save souls?

2. There are persistent reports about shoddy construction work on some major buildings being erected in the island. The exhortation "you get what you pay for" keeps ringing in our ears. Cheap contract guarantees less-than-stellar results.

3. Most banks have a fraud department, yet we don't hear about many people being prosecuted for defrauding banks. What we do hear about are the many customers whose accounts are being cleaned out at ABMs - are these criminals being allowed to continue their 'work' uninterrupted? It seems the banks quietly return the money to the customers' accounts and the criminals are never caught and punished.
