Three-timer for Nelson

Having secured a third consecutive jockeys' championship with the departure of closest rival Dick Cardenas last Wednesday, Dane Nelson continued to give racing fans a bonus, thanks to three winners on yesterday's nine-race programme at Caymanas Park.

Among them was BAD BOY JUSTIN at 8-1 in the eighth race over 1200 metres for the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers' Association Trophy.

Earlier, Nelson booted home 1-5 favourite OPULENT to her third consecutive win in the opening race over 1400 metres and came back to win the last race aboard another hat-trick closer SAINT MARY, the even money favourite, to push his season's tally to 108 - 12 clear of Cardenas who has relocated to his native Panama following a six-year stint in Jamaica.

BAD BOY JUSTIN, who was never far off the pace in fourth leaving the half mile, got the inside run into the straight and disposed of the leaders RAJA SARANGI, the 3-5 favourite, and STORMOFTHESEA (14-1) to win by two lengths from the Shane Ellis-ridden RAJA SARANGI in a field of nine. The winner is owned by Norris Phinn and trained by Dwight Chen.

On a day when the Pick-9 eluded punters once again and now offers a $4.8 million carryover to today's meet, the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers' Association honoured four of its members - Fernando Geddes, Eraldo Fullerton, Kingsley Davis and Errol Subratie, father of trainer Gary Subratie, who collected the award on his behalf.
