Where are the JFF officials?

As the region's governing football body (CONCACAF) plunged into one of the biggest corruption scandals it has ever faced in its history yesterday, the nation's top-ranking football executives went missing in action.

The integrity of the region's football faced severe questioning after CONCACAF president and FIFA vice-president Caymanian Jeffrey Webb was arrested with six other FIFA officials in Zurich yesterday morning.

Calls to a host of JFF officials - to garner further insight into the matter - went unanswered or straight to voice message, leaving us to ask the question: Where are they?

For president Horace Burrell, general secretary Raymond Grant, first vice-president Bruce Gaynor and second vice-president Raymond Anderson, the phone rang out.

Calls to Grant, Anderson, Gaynor and Burrell went to voicemail or the phone didn't ring.

There was also no linking JFF executive officer Peter Reid, as his phone did not ring at all. Calls to third vice president, Michael Ricketts, went directly to voice message.

At least someone answered the phone of JFF treasurer Garry Sinclair. However, the person explained to The Gleaner that he was in a meeting and unlikely to be available (for comment) for the remainder of the evening.

Burrell is in Zurich to attend the FIFA Congress, which is scheduled to have a voting session to challenge Swiss Sepp Blatter's presidency tomorrow.

Fellow local football officials Grant and Howard McIntosh (chairman, JFF technical committee) are also in Zurich for the FIFA congress.

Ironically, prior to the last FIFA presidential vote, there was a cash-for votes scandal involving challenger Mohamed Bin Hammam, that saw Austin 'Jack' Warner, then CONCACAF president and FIFA vice-president, being unceremoniously ejected from his position.

Warner was replaced by Webb, who now seems to have fallen into this new web of corruption.
