BG&LC contributes $2m to August 1 raceday

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BG&LC), the regulatory arm of gaming in Jamaica, has contributed $2 million to purses for its 11th annual raceday at Caymanas Park on Saturday, August 1 (Emancipation Day).
The programme will feature a number of trophy races, including the 3-y-o and up open allowance feature over 1100 metres for the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Trophy. This offers a total purse of $1 million, inclusive of $500,000 from the BG&LC.
Details for the meet were outlined by representatives of the BG&LC and Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) at yesterday's launch in the Trainers' Room at Caymanas Park.
Denzil Miller Jr., CTL's racing secretary, said the race is "all about speed, and it will be speed and more speed, which makes for an intriguing contest".
The likely starters are the fleet-footed TALENTED TONY K, TRADITIONAL PRINCE, FORTUNEONEHUNDRED, PHINEAS, RIO COBRE, UNCLE TAF, BORDER LINE, JANIBOUTICE, EDISON as well as this year's 1000 Guineas winner PUDDY POOH and the Oaks winner MOM'S STUDENT.
In addition, the card will facilitate the annual renewal of the Emancipation Day Trophy (claiming $600,000 - $500,000) over 1300 metres for a purse of $570,000 inclusive of $100,000 from the BGLC; the Charles Randle Cup over 1200 metres for a purse of $765,000 with $200,000 from the sponsor, the Albert Rose Memorial Trophy over 1820 metres for a purse of $566,000 ($200,000 from sponsor); along with the Josseth Grey Memorial Trophy race 1820 metres; the Carl Hill Memorial Trophy over 1200 metres for $180,000 claimers; and the Charles Hayles Memorial Trophy over 1300 metres for maiden four-year-olds and up.
Speaking at the launch, Cedric Stewart, CEO of Caymanas Track Limited, said:

Jack Shirley, executive director of the BG&LC, was also at yesterday's function.
