Jamaica’s 400m women hunt spots in the final

Jamaica’s foursome of Christine Day, Stephenie McPherson, Shericka Jackson and Novlene Williams-Mills will go in search of spots in the IAAF World Championships women’s 400m final when they take to the track in the semi-finals at 6:05 a.m.
National champion, Day, will run out of lane five in heat one.
The 29-year-old has the sixth fastest time of 50.58 going into the semis, which she comfortably recorded to win her heat.
Day will have for company, medal favourites Shaunae Miller of The Bahamas, who posted 50.53 in qualifying and the USA’s Natasha Hastings (51.25).
Heat two will feature the Commonwealth champion McPherson in lane six.
Her opening round time of 50.34 is the fastest of all qualifiers.
The youngster of the pack, Jackson, and the veteran Williams-Mills will be side by side in the third and final heat.
The 21-year-old Jackson, who posted the third quickest opening round time of 50.41 finished second behind Romania’s Bianca Razor (50.37).
Jackson will run in lane five in the semis.
Thirty-three year-old Mills, who attained a season best 51.07 - the 12th fastest time of the heats - finished second behind Miller and will run out of lane six.
The 2007 World Championships bronze medallist will also have for company, gold medal favorite Allyson Felix of the USA, who qualified with 50.60.
