KINGSTON:

In the presence of Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Central Kingston, Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) handed over a cheque worth $150,000 to the Allman/Woodford Under-13 and Under-15 football teams.

"Sports is a complement to education, it both boost character and confidence. We do not always acknowledge the cohesive work that sports organisations do in promoting goodwill, discipline and providing our young people with an opportunity to express themselves through sports," remarked Minister Thwaites.

Both teams earned positive results in their opening matches. The Under-15 and Under-13 Allman/Woodford teams copped landslide wins against Mountain View FC with scores of 5-0 and 10-0, respectively. Since the beginning of this year's season, the Allman/Woodford Under-13 team has played five matches, winning four and drawing one, while the Under 15 team has won three of its five matches.

Lamar Harris, general manager and company secretary of SSL, noted that through the company's Foundation, SSL is proud to contribute to sports and education as these areas enhance nation building.

"I want to congratulate both teams for their stellar performance this past weekend," said an excited Harris. "We are heartened to know that SSL is supporting one of the best football clubs in Kingston.

"Our commitment to the nation's youth goes beyond this isolated activity. SSL promotes educating the public on ways to improve lives through gaining financial freedom."

Allman/Woodford Football Club, under the leadership of Errol Howlett, vice president and manager, has become a formidable force and is one of the strongest clubs in Central Kingston.

"We really appreciate the support we received from Stocks and Securities Ltd. Their donation will go a long way in helping the team finish this year's season, especially in terms of equipping the teams with the proper gear, provision of transportation, food and other necessities," said an appreciative Howlett.

Stocks and Securities Ltd.(SSL) is now gearing up to officially launch the SSL Foundation, with Bishop Robert Thompson as chairman and Richard Bertram, SSL consultant.
