Edwin Allen High School’s Janique Burgher clears the bar at 1.70 metres to win gold in the girls Class Three high jump.

Edwin Allen High School’s Janique Burgher captured first gold medal on day three of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships underway at the National Stadium.

Burgher won the Class Three girls high jump event with a leap of 1.70 metres. Burgher cleared the height on her first attempt, but later failed three attempts at 1.75m as she attempted to break Shiann Salmon's record of 1.78m.

Hydel's Shauntia Davidson was second with a mark of 1.65m while there was a three-way tie for the bronze medal between Kaliah Jones of Excelsior, Kadian Myers of Lacovia and Hydel's Rhianna Phipps, who all leapt 1.65m.

Edwin Allen has moved into the lead with 30 points after four girls finals. Hydel is second on 26 points followed Excelsior on 21, Vere Technical (16) and many-time champions Holmwood Technical (13).
