Dreamcometrue wins BGLC Trophy
DREAMCOMETRUE, running at odds of 5-1 with O'Brien White aboard, outfinished rivals to win the 12th running of the 3-y-o and up open allowance feature for the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy over 1100 metres at Caymanas Park on Monday.
Trained by Steven Todd for owner Patrick McKenzie, DREAMCOMETRUE stormed through on the inside early in the last furlong after FORCE DE JOUR (2-1) had made most of the running, to win by 21/2 lengths from the chasing MOM'S STUDENT (5-2).
She covered the distance in the smart time of 1:05.3 on a wet surface, behind splits of 22.3, 46.1, to equal the stakes record held by UPPA TUNE since August of last year.
Topweight BRAWN, who was third past the post as the even-money favourite, was disqualified following a stewards' inquiry and placed fourth for causing interference to FORCE DE JOUR in mid-stretch.
White, the winning rider, said the fast early pace set by FORCE DE JOUR, MOM'S STUDENT and BRAWN made his task somewhat easier.
EASY VICTORY
"I was able to bide my time in fourth at the half mile, come with a ground-saving run on the inside into the straight before going into overdrive," said the former champion apprentice.
"In the end, it was an easy victory, her fourth from 13 starts this season," he added.
Earlier in the afternoon, HOLOGRAM SHADOW made all convincingly to win the Emancipation Day secondary feature over 1300 metres for high claimers as the even-money favourite. The seven-year-old gelding was ridden by the apprentice Javaniel Patterson for trainer Andrew McDonald and owner Nicholas Miller.
On a day when White rode two winners and trainer Wayne Parchment saddled two winners in BIG BUCK and ZEPHYR - for his mom Margaret - two apprentices finally rode their first winners - Kemoy Parchment booting home 3-1 chance UNION FOUR in the second race and Oneil Scott going wire to wire aboard 11-1 shot LITTLE BIG HORN, for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta in the seventh.
