FRANKFURT, Germany (CMC):

Jamaica international Michael Hector has joined Eintracht Frankfurt in the German league on loan from Chelsea.

The Jamaican defender will be away for another season from his boyhood club, Chelsea, after spending last season on loan at Reading.

The 24-year-old made his debut for the eagles yesterday by taking the pitch in the second half of their pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo.

"Frankfurt is a cool city. The first impressions are very good," Hector told the club's official website.

"I am very excited about the new job and I cannot wait. I hope for a successful time here."

Hector was born in England but chose to represent Jamaica at international level on account of his father, who is Jamaican.

Hector spent last summer with the Jamaica national team at the Copa AmÈrica and CONCACAF Gold Cup, partnering Wes Morgan at centre-back as they reached the final.

"With Michael Hector we have the player type we were looking for. He is athletic, tall and strong in the air. He also has a lot of development potential," said Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner.

"It's great that we managed to steer a player from England to Germany in times like this. Normally, it's vice versa. It's nice that Michael Hector has decided to join us."

Hector began his career as a trainee at Reading and spent time on loan at Irish sides Dundalk, Barnet, Shrewsbury, Aldershot, Cheltenham Town, and Aberdeen.

Hector, a centre-back, has featured several times in pre-season under new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte but has been sent out to the Bundesliga to continue his development.
