Horses back on track - CTL replaces engineering staff with new trainees

Following last Saturday's shutdown, racing resumes at Caymanas Park today with a 10-race programme, after steps were taken by the management of Caymanas Track limited (CTL) to protect the computer files from sabotage within the Engineering Department.

Shane Dalling, managing director of CTL, gave clarity to the impasse between the promoting company and workers from the Engineering Department represented by the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP).

"After a brief review of our computer systems by the overseas service provider, it was discovered that critical files needed to operate the system were missing. This act of sabotage affected both the main and the backup systems.

"As a result, we referred the matter to the Cyber Crime United of the Jamaica Constabulary Force last weekend to carry out further investigations, led by Deputy Supt. Shane McCalla," said Dalling.

REPLACING THE STAFFERS

He added that technicians from the overseas provider, United Tote, worked assiduously with a number of new trainees over the weekend to get the system back on stream during CTL's simulcast racing output on Saturday and Sunday.

The new trainees were assigned to the Engineering Department since Monday, replacing the previous staffers.

"What this means is that the Engineering Department is off limits to the previous staffers, numbering 19. They will not be allowed back in until further notice as the investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit is ongoing."

Efforts to contact a representative of UTASP yesterday proved futile.

Meanwhile, PRINCE KAMALI and REASSURANCE, both to be ridden by leading jockey Omar Walker, are tipped to win the divided feature for the Dr Clifford Grey Memorial Cup for maiden three-year-olds over 1300 metres, this by virtue of their consistency.

Other firm fancies are GOLD SCREW in the first race, LORD STORM in the sixth, PINELOPE in the ninth and SPEEDY PROCESS in the 10th and final.
