Denham Town hold KC
Denham Town High School held Kingston College to a 0-0 draw in an exciting ISSA-FLOW Manning Cup Group C game at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex in West Kingston yesterday.
It was a good game for both teams and truly ended in a fair result. With the points shared, KC stayed on top of the group on 19 points, while Denham Town remained second on 16 in the race for group honours.
Denham Town got the better chance in the first half, but Kevon Smile's shot to goal, which had KC's goalkeeper Jahvanni Grant beaten, was cleared off the line by Javain Brown.
KC went close when Trayvon Reid hit the left upright as Denham Town stayed disciplined throughout, settling for the point.
Denham Town goalkeeper Brian Bennett kept his team in the game with a sixth clean sheet in seven games played.
"I feel great; I'm not at hundred per cent. It was a good game from both teams," Bennett told The Gleaner.
"I made some good saves and the team defended well and also got our chances to score. The team can go far as the aim is to win the group and also make the Super Cup," the 19-year-old sixth form student disclosed.
Ludlow Bernard, coach of KC, said it was a fair result.
"I am not surprised by Denham Town's tactic of staying behind the ball. The thing is that we didn't concede today. We were a bit unlucky. We worked hard in the game," Bernard said.
"I'm pretty satisfied with the performance of my team. We had many young players on the team," he added.
Omar Edwards, Denham Town's coach, said his team fought hard and earned a valuable point.
"The point put us close to a place in the second round and we are also on course for a Super Cup place. I'm satisfied with the performance," Edwards disclosed.
"KC is a very organised team with numerous national and former national youth players. However, we are hungry for more than just advancing to the second stage," the national Under-17 assistant coach also said.
