Carter facing CAS in appeal against Beijing 2008 ban

Experienced Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter is today arguing his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as he appeals his disqualification from the 2008 Olympic Games for a doping violation.

Carter was scratched from the Beijng Games after testing positive for the banned substance methylhexaneamine in a reanalysis programme covering stored samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. 

The sprinter's disqualification meant that Jamaica lost the 4x100m relay gold medal it won at the event given Carter's role as the lead leg runner. 

Pictures, this morning, showed Carter covering his face from photographers as he arrived at CAS in Lausanne, Switzerland for a closed-door hearing.

The hearing is expected to last for the entire day with a verdict said to be likely in a matter of weeks. 

32 year-old Carter has been a key member of successful Jamaican relay teams over the years and also won bronze in the 100m at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.
