No pain, no gain - Dino Williams happy to play through injury for MBU

It has not been the best season for Montego Bay United's (MBU) striker Dino Williams. The forward has struggled with a persistent groin injury for over two seasons and is due for surgery.

However, he postponed that surgery to help struggling MBU, and that sacrifice paid dividends yesterday after he bagged a double to lead the former champions to a 3-0 win over 10-man Boys' Town in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Barbican Complex yesterday.

The two goals make Williams the club's joint top scorer, with Lesley St Fleur, on five goals. However, the faith his coach and teammates have in him motivates him to score the goals that will lift them from their present predicament and into the play-offs.

"To get two goals is always a good feeling as a striker. I told my captain (Dwayne Ambusley) at the beginning, that it's better they give me the chances and I miss them and then blame me. So to get two goals is a good feeling.

TOUGH PLAYING INJURED

Williams delayed his surgery to play out the season, and it has been tough playing injured. But the confidence his coach and teammates have in him inspires him to get the job done for them.

"I am not that well, and I haven't worked (operated) on it as yet. So I am just using experience. My fitness is not 100 per cent. But I'm always going to do what I can do, although I am not 100 per cent fit.

"I told the captain we don't have anybody to depend on (to score goals), and he said that he prefers to go out with a 40 per cent (fit) Dino because he knows I can get the job done, and when a coach, your captain, and players believe in you, it makes your job easy," he said.

"I have worked with the coach (Tim Hankinson) before. He believes in his players and knows how to motivate his players. When you have a coach like that, you have to go out every game and work for him. We are looking to win five games straight. Five games straight can push us into the top six. I got two (goals) today. If I can continue for the next few games, then I'll see how many I can get to get the team to push on," he added.

Boys Town was reduced to 10 men after 59 minutes when Ricardo Dennis was ejected for retaliation. Williams opened the scoring in the 66th minute and followed up with his second 11 minutes later. St Fleur closed the win with a curling shot from the edge of the box.

MBU stayed tenth with 27 points, same as Harbour View, who play Cavalier this evening. Boys' Town stayed at bottom on 14 points.
