JFF eyeing CFU board member post

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Mike Ricketts, said the federation is contemplating having one of its members run for a board position at the next regional Congress in Russia on June 11.

The region's governing body, the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), will decide on a new president in the summer, with the vice president and board member positions, also to be determined.

Ricketts said Jamaica, as one of the region's football powerhouses, should have some representation at the board level of the region's football.

"There is a position for a vice president and a position for a member that is open. A number of person seem to have an interest in being a member or vice president. One member (Trinidad) has asked me for his support. But we will discuss all of that at a board meeting on the 21st (April). As it's important that Jamaica as one of the top islands in the Caribbean, should go for at least the member position that is available," he said.

Meanwhile, Ricketts said the JFF will make a decision on the impending elections, at next Saturday's board meeting. However, he believes the Barbados Football Association president, Randy Harris, the acting CFU president, is the front-runner at this stage.

SEEKING SUPPORT

"Two persons have so far reached out to me as president of our (Jamaica) federation, seeking our support. Both have reached out seeking our support. I will present the cases of both gentlemen on the 21st. We (JFF board) will look at their rÈsumÈ and make a decision as to who we are supporting, but Mr Harris, as I speak, seems to be the front-runner," he said.

Nominations close on May 11, a full 30 days before the election, and Ricketts said there will be time to have discussions and get advice from knowledgeable people around the CFU and CONCACAF.
