Price: We were nervous

Senior women's team assistant coach, Andrew Price, was a disappointed man yesterday after Jamaica were only able to score a narrow 3-2 victory over regional minnows Barbados in the Caribbean Football Union Challenger Series at the UWI/JFF/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence yesterday.

Jamaica's goal scorers were Kevena Reid in the 34th minute, Shantel Bailey (35th) and Roshana Palache (50th). Barbados' goals came from Felicia Javis in the 30th minute and Rianna Cyrus in the 49th minute.

The home side took a while to get settled and the visitors led when Javis netted. However, Jamaica fought back with two goals inside a minute. They went 3-2 up, but Barbados quickly responded.

'I'm a little disappointed but a lot of it was due to nerves. We had ten players who made their debut at the senior level. They were a bit nervous.

"We had basic control of the game. The two goals we gave up were due to defensive mistakes. Other than that, I think we could have been more clinical upfront because we got some good opportunities but it is a work in progress.

Jordan Thomas, Barbados' technical director, said it was a much better performance from his team, coming off a 7-0 drubbing by Cuba in the opening game last Wednesday.

Better performance

"It was a lot better performance today, we were a lot more confident on the ball. We gave away three easy goals. But, I am satisfied with the tour," Thomas said.

Jamaica will now turn their attention to the last game against Cuba tomorrow at Drewsland Stadium, starting at 5 p.m.

Cuba, also on three points after one win, lead Group B with a superior goal difference ahead of Jamaica. Barbados finished without a point in the series.
