Western Bureau:

Local female football referee, Odette Hamilton, will be in Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Hamilton is one of six promising referees from each confederation across the world chosen to take part in a FIFA women's referee seminar (June 27-28) during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

She is extremely excited at being given the opportunity to witness the atmosphere of the greatest show on earth.

"When I got the email I actually cried. It's a wonderful feeling so now all I have to do is go there, give of my best, and learn as much as I can."

Hamilton, a Tacius Golding High past student, stepped up to FIFA referee status last year after just eight years in the field. She was nominated among nine others for CONCACAF female referee of the year last November.

The 26-year-old credited her determination and hard work for the quick rise up the ranks.

"I guess it's because of the work I have put in over the years," said Hamilton, who was named Jamaica's referee of the year in 2017.

Despite her achievements ,she continues to set the bar high for herself as she intends to attempt the tier two male course for referees, June 7-11.

"There is a tier two course for referees, both male and female, next month in Costa Rica and I am down for that course. They will give us the opportunity to try the male test so I am gearing my mind to go there and do it," said Hamilton who admitted she has been putting in some extra work for what will be a rigorous physical test.
