Reggae Girlz hunt second win in WCup campaign

Jamaica, big 13-0 winners in their opening match, will hunt a second win in the CONCACAF Caribbean Women's Qualifiers (CCWQ) Group B when they face Martinique today at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Kick off time is 4 p.m.

In the day's second game, hosts Haiti take on Guadeloupe at 8:30 p.m.

The Reggae Girlz lead the group on goal difference after the massive win over Guadeloupe. Haiti who defeated Martinique 2-0 are second.

Striker Khadija Shaw who slammed in six against Guadeloupe is again expected to lead the attack with support coming from Dominique Bond-Flasza and Giselle Washington.

DIFFICULT OPPOSITION

Jamaica's assistant coach, Lorne Donaldson, said that Martinique could prove to be a difficult opposition.

"We watched the first half of the Martinique game against Haiti and they (Martinique) are a very defensive team. We will come up with a plan to break them down," Donaldson told The Gleaner yesterday.

"Guadeloupe were weak and this is a totally different game, so we can't take much from it. Martinique are tough opponents. Deneisha Blackwood has a slight injury and both goalkeepers have injury worries, but apart from that the other players are OK," he shared.

Jamaica will close the group stage against Haiti on Sunday.

The winners of the five CCWQ groups will advance to the final round of the Caribbean qualifiers to be held August 25-September 2.

The top three teams from the final round will qualify for the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship October 4-17. Group A of the confederation qualifiers is set to be played in Cary, North Carolina, while Group B will be contested in Edinburgh, Texas.

The final stage will then take place in Frisco, Texas, with the top three teams qualifying as the CONCACAF representatives to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

The fourth-place team will engage in an intercontinental play-off for the possibility of qualifying another CONCACAF nation.
