Thompson, Fraser-Pryce, Blake named for JAAA Trials

President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), Dr Warren Blake, said sprinters Elaine Thompson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Yohan Blake have confirmed their participation in this weekend's National Senior Athletics Championships.

The Senior Championships, which will run alongside the National Junior Athletics Championships, will be held at the National Stadium from June 21-24.

Blake told The Gleaner that 2014 Commonwealth Games 100m champion Kemar Bailey-Cole will also be competing at the four-day championships.

"I haven't gotten a full schedule of all the athletes that have entered, but those are some of them that I know who have entered the championships," said Blake.

"Everything is in place because the athletes are coming and the expectations are high and we are expecting a good turnout of our senior athletes," he said. "Most of them have indicated their willingness to come and participate," Blake said.

EXCITING WEEKEND

"I am expecting an exciting weekend of activities because a number of world class athletes will be showing up during the championships," Blake said.

The Junior Championships will be used to select Jamaica's team to this year's Youth Olympics Games as well as the IAAF World Under 20 Championships.

On the other hand, senior athletes will be competing for spots on the country's team for this year's World Cup of Athletics in London next month as well as the CAC Games and NACAC Championships.

Blake added that the athletes have been performing excellently at the All Comers Meets over the past month and everybody is ready and raring to go.

"I think that everybody wants to come to the National Trials because most of the senior athletes want to compete at the World Cup of Athletics, and juniors are looking for a spot on the Under-20 team, so we should have a very exciting four days of track and field," he said.
