BCIC on board for AJ Junior Squash Champs

KINGSTON:

Insurance giants BCIC have signed on as title sponsors of the 2018 All Jamaica Junior Squash Championships, which is scheduled to run from tomorrow to Saturday, June 23, at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

BCIC is providing a sponsorship allocation of $300,000 for the staging of the competition, which is the nation's premier youth squash tournament.

In announcing the sponsorship, the company indicated that supporting the championships was aligned with their corporate social responsibility thrust, which focuses on empowering young persons and facilitating youth development through education and sports.

"BCIC is committed to promoting a tradition of excellence through the development of future leaders and role models in education and sports, and we are pleased to be on board as the title sponsor of the 2018 All Jamaica Junior Squash Championships," said BCIC Managing Director, Peter Levy.

Strong competition is anticipated when the youngsters bow into action later this week. Leading the line-up is Jonathan Walker, who was recently selected to attend the Youth Olympic Games later this year in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is highly favoured to take the All Jamaica Under-19 boys' title.

Similarly, reigning All Jamaica Under-17 girls champion, Mia Mahfood, is expected to retain her title, but her long-time rival, Mia Lake, will be going all out to prevent Mahfood from repeating.

 

All eyes on Thompson siblings

 

In addition, all eyes will be on in-form siblings, Savannah and Lukas Thompson, with Savannah expected to win the girls' Under-13 title and Lukas anticipated to be a major threat in the Under-13 boys' competition.

Across the board, the young players will all be seeking to impress as the national championship is the last major tournament ahead of the final selection for the 2018 Caribbean Area Squash Association Junior Championships, which will be held in Kingston from July 8-14.
