Amazing Atkinson strikes again!

Jamaica's swimming star, Alia Atkinson, last night won her third medal and Jamaica's fourth of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Atkinson, who won the 100m breaststroke on Friday and the 50m butterfly on Saturday, took the 50m breaststroke gold in a regional record of 30.19 seconds.

Jamaica's other medal at the championship yesterday was won by squash player Chris Binnie, who took bronze in the men's singles event.

Keanan Dols booked his place in the men's 50m butterfly 'B' finals after placing fourth in heat three to earn his spot.

In field hockey, the Jamaica women's team recovered from their opening-game defeat to Barbados to beat Guatemala 5-0 in their second Group B match. They will play their next game against Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow.

Jamaica's men's doubles squash team of Chris Binnie and Lewis Walters were no match for Colombia's Heredia Vargas and Andres Herrera in their quarter-final as they went down 2-0 (11-4, 11-4).

However, the Jamaica women's football team will enter their final group A match against Colombia with a very slim chance of making it to the next round. Costa Rica lead the group with six points, ahead of Colombia and Venezuela on three points each, and Jamaica on none.

However, if Jamaica beat Colombia by two clear goals and Costa Rica get the better of Venezuela, Jamaica, Colombia and Venezuela would end with three points, but the Reggae Girlz would advance to the semi-finals by virtue of a better goal difference.

Jamaica's men's field hockey team will also bow into action in Group A against Barbados today. Jamaican cyclist Oshane Williams will also be in action today.
