Andrew Peart has been officially confirmed as the new head coach of the University of the West Indies (UWI) heading into the upcoming Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) new season.

With the departure of Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle to Waterhouse, the position was vacant and Peart, who previously served as Gayle's assistant, was successful among the candidates that applied for the post.

Former Portmore United coach Linval Dixon will serve as the new assistant coach for the UWI FC outfit.

Newly appointed general manager, Theomark Edwards, confirmed the changes yesterday and noted that the tem has been working well in training in preparation for the upcoming RSPL season.

"The only changes we have experienced with the football team is in terms of the management and technical staff. Going into the new season we have Andrew Peart as head coach and Linval Dixon as assistant coach. And I have been appointed general manager and also team manager," Edwards told The Gleaner.

With regard to movement of players, Edwards said that he is confident that majority of the players will be back at the club.

"We started preseason last Tuesday and with the exception of a few players, the others are in training. We are always open to adding new players, but that is left to the coaching staff to select those, who can come in and help us to win the title," he added.

"All is well in the camp. I had an opportunity to work with Gayle and wish him all the best. However, we have a new coach and the aim, as always, is to improve, stay consistent and win trophies. The players are in a good mood and we are putting things in place to keep them happy," Edwards shared.

UWI are expected to retain their top marksman in the league last season in Ryan Miller, as well as national representatives, goalkeeper Amal Knight and midfielder Fabion McCarthy, among other key figures, as they look to push for their first title.

The tertiary institution team won the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Major League and Super League titles, then gained promotion to the RSPL three seasons ago under the guidance of Gayle.
