Reggae Girlz forward Trudi Carter is set to depart for Italy soon to line up for the recently formed AS Roma women's team in the 2018-19 season.

Carter has scored two goals so far in the five-team CONCACAF Caribbean Women's World Cup qualifiers now on at the National Stadium.

"I have not signed the contract yet because I am waiting on the visa. My agent called me today with the great news that I am going to get the visa and as soon as I get it I will be leaving for Italy to sign the contract officially," an elated Carter told The Gleaner yesterday morning from the national team's hotel in New Kingston.

"I am so excited. After the phone call, I wanted to cry. This is something that I have waited all my life for, I am overwhelmed," Carter said.

Carter is very passionate about the sport that she started at an early age while revealing that it was tough growing up in Arnett Gardens.

DREAM COME TRUE

"This is my dream to play professional football. I have been through so much growing up in the ghetto. I will be living my dream, This will change my life," she shared.

"My mom is the major influence in my life. Many times, I had to go to my bed without food to eat. My mom had to work very hard. I have not called my mother yet, you are the first to know about the visa," Carter added.

Her journey started while attending Jones Town Primary where she played among boys. She went on to Trench Town High and played in the schoolgirls league before gaining a scholarship to Navarro Junior College in Texas, USA, where she spent two years.

The 23-year-old is also a graduate of University of South Florida where she earned a degree in Social Studies.

Top-tier Italian club AS Roma officially confirmed in June that they will enter a women's team in next season's Serie A women's league. The Giallorossi women's team will be coached by Elisabetta Bavagnoli, with home games to be played at Stadio Tre Fontane.
