KC ready and confident - Bernard

Having won the Super Cup title last year, coach of Kingston College Ludlow Bernard is looking to build on that momentum in this year's ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition, which kicks off today.

Many-time champions KC last won the coveted title in 1986 and over the last three decades, the staunch supporters of the Purples have been left devastated after some very good starts.

Reflecting on last year's Super Cup win, Bernard said the feeling within the team was extremely positive while underlining that the team would be looking to continue their title-winning exploits this season.

"It is a fantastic feeling to win any trophy. It is overwhelming to win the Super Cup which was a prestigious trophy. We are looking to build on that momentum," Bernard told The Gleaner yesterday.

With that season behind, Bernard shared that his team was oozing confidence and was determined to bring back the Manning Cup title to the North Street institution.

"I am quite confidently optimistic about our chance of lifting the Manning Cup. It was a satisfactory pre-season, where we played (top quality) practise games. We are really satisfied with the level we are at," Bernard said.

"What is important is what is ahead of us the competition. I am expecting a tough season because there are a lot of good teams out there. We are looking forward to the rivalry," he added.

When quizzed about the pressure of not winning the title since 1986, Bernard said: "What pressure? We have done enough to cushion that."
