GodSpeid, son! - Cavalier technical director watching over Ainsworth progress in Barcelona

Cavalier Soccer Club Technical Director Rudolph Speid says young Christopher Ainsworth, one of five young players selected to travel to Barcelona, Spain, for a training camp, is a good all-round player and he hopes the trip will be a good eye-opener for the young striker.

Ainsworth was the top scorer and Most Valuable Player of the Milo/KSAFA Under-13 one-day tournament at Football Factory, Barbican, St Andrew, on Sunday, hence his inclusion on the trip.

Speid revealed that the club discovered Ainsworth, who netted seven goals in six matches, on one of its scouting missions in Manchester last summer. Although he missed the majority of the KSAFA Under-13 season, Speid thought he showed the class and quality to capture the two individual awards and help his team to the title.

WELL-ROUNDED PLAYER

"This player, he's all round, he can do a bit of everything. He can dribble, he can pass, he can kick very well, and he has pace. He is a well-rounded player that does everything well.

"We got him in the middle of the season. We spotted him. We believe he's a very talented player, so we brought him to Cavalier, and with hard work and a little luck, he can go a far way," Speid said.

"You could see he was way above everybody else throughout the tournament, and we are hoping he goes to Barcelona and makes the club proud. It's early days, he's young and his journey is just really starting, so he can develop further. But this is a great opportunity for him to open his eyes and see what he can achieve at a young age,' he continued.

"Jamaican footballers with a lot of talent, when they go overseas they are much older, so this is good for him to open his eyes, so when he comes back he will know he has to come back and put in the hard work. But it is good to expose him this early, so he will have no inhibitions going overseas. It's good that Milo has come on board and tried to help the players like this, but it's a long journey," he added.

Ainsworth will be accompanied to Barcelona by Cavalier teammate Nathaniel Brooks, Liguanea FC's Brian Burkett, Boys' Town FC's Leon Brown and Lionel Town FC's Kenroy Williams.

Cavalier also captured all four individual awards on offer, as along with Ainsworth's MVP and top scorer awards, Giovanni Headley was the best goalkeeper and Everdean Scarlett the coach of the tournament.

The technical team which comprised Marc Williams, KSAFA competitions chairman; Rochelle Coore, Aldene Crew, O'Hara Headley and Brandon Samms selected the players based on skill and deportment.
