Sunshine Girls defender Shamera Sterling has added another accolade to her impressive season this year after she was named a Gilbert Brand Ambassador.

Sterling told The Sunday Gleaner that she was delighted as Gilbert is one of the most recognised netball apparel brands in the world.

"They have been talking to me about it for while, and so I am excited about being a brand ambassador for the company," she said.

The 22-year-old Sterling, who is rated as one of the best defenders in the world, had an outstanding season with Loughborough Lightning in the Vitality Netball Super League in England, where she won four awards, including the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy.

Sterling, who plays goalkeeper, recorded 101 interceptions in 18 games for the Lightning in the just-concluded season, which also saw her copping the Fans Player of the Season as well as Players' Player of the Season and All-Star Player of the Season awards.

Sterling's performance did not go unnoticed as she has been signed by Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Australian Suncorp Super League.

"This year has been a huge success for me because it is like I am on a roll and God has a plan for me," said Sterling.

"There is more to come, and so I just want to thank the Lord for helping me with all the struggles that I have been through and giving me this opportunity to shine bright," she said.

Sterling added that she is now looking to make her mark in the Australian Super League next season.

"I am pretty excited that I am going to play in the Australian League because that has always been my dream, to expose my talent outside of Jamaica. I am looking forward to great things in the future and, hopefully, I can be the top defender in Australia," she said.
