Set plays working for us - Reynolds

After scoring six goals in two games from set plays, Vassell Reynolds, coach of Rusea's High School, says their hard work in that area is now paying off.

Yesterday, they blanked nine-man Frome Technical 3-0 in their ISSA/WATA Zone B daCosta Cup encounter at the Collin Miller Sports Complex yesterday. Two of the goals came from set plays.

Kenroy Campbell (65th), Jhevoy Diaz, and Rasheed Brown in second half injury time, were the goalscorers for the defending champions. Joel Wilson's's second yellow in the 64th minute and Jevughnie Colman's 68th-minute straight red for serious foul play left the visitors with little chance of mounting a late challenge.

Reynolds said that they were working on set plays until after six o'clock on Friday evening, and he was pleased to see it pay off

"The special thing about this win is that we have been working on some set pieces, and it seems as if we are reaping great benefit from them," said Reynolds.

"That's the job of the coaches. You have to find creative ways to get goals. If you're not getting it from the normal run of play, you have to create ways. We figured that we have been having some issues up front in terms of our finishing, so we have been doing some work on it," he added.

MAXIMUM POINTS

Reynolds was also pleased to have secured maximum points in a very physical match.

"I think both teams came out tentative. We weren't playing with a lot of confidence, but we spoke about it at halftime and came back out with the right attitude to play. I thought it was bad luck on Frome's part with those two red cards, but we took advantage. What was pleasing was how dominant we were in the second half and could have won by a wider margin.

"This programme is set for us to get better as the competition goes on, and we are seeing signs of that. Obviously, we have some work to do, especially in the attacking third, and that's what we will be focusing on in the next couple of days," Reynolds said.
