daCosta Farm needs work - Chris Lee

President of MX (MotoCross) Jamaica Chris Lee says the daCosta Farm race track, which was set to host Round 3 of the 2018 MotoCross Summer Series yesterday, is in need of better maintenance if it is to overcome tough weather conditions.

The track, on the outskirts of Spanish Town, was left in conditions not fit for competitive riding after heavy rains, and Lee said they will look into how they can better prepare the track to stand the test of such weather.

"The track was flooded from the torrential rains that we had, and that is why we cancelled," Lee told The Gleaner. "We didn't know what condition the track would be in when it was dried. It's almost dry now, but there is a lot of work to be done. The track needs some maintenance, so hopefully, we can do it in the next two weeks.

"Right now, I don't know how much work it is going to take, but there is a group of us that looks after track preparation. So we all have to come together and work out what we need because we cannot afford for the rain to mess us up again," he said.

The event, which is the third and final in the series, will be rescheduled as soon as repairs to the track are completed. "It will be rescheduled as soon as we get the track ready, and we can have a full weekend before where they (competitors) can come in when it's open and prepared so they can practice. Then, we will have the race the next weekend," he said.

He added that although the cancellation was not a big disappointment, he and riders alike were looking forward to the conclusion of the series. "This is not the first event we are having; this is the last in a series. I don't think it has dampened anything because they all understand," he said.
