Walker Cup semis postponed

The semi-final matches in this year's ISSA Walker Cup knockout competition, which were scheduled for the Spanish Town Prison Oval in St Catherine today have been postponed until tomorrow.

George Forbes, competition officer of ISSA, said that his organisation had to reschedule both games because of today's Red Stripe Premier League game between Arnett Gardens and Dunbeholden, which is set for the same venue.

"It is a venue problem because there is Red Stripe Premier League game at the venue and so we have to move our game to tomorrow," said Forbes.

"We had done our fixture from early and sent it to the Prison Oval (management) and so they didn't get the notice until late and so you know that the Premier League is going to take precedent, but this is not a major thing as far as we are concern," he said.

Hydel are set to face Cumberland in one semi-final, while Excelsior will go up against St Catherine in the other semi.

Forbes added the rescheduling of the matches will not affect the teams because they will now have more time to plan their strategies ahead of the game.

"This is not going to affect any of the teams because when the teams play on Friday, they are not going to play again until the following week and so it is not a major problem," Forbes said.

"It is not going to affect the schedule because the boys are going to get the same amount of rest and so we are going to do what needs to be done to ensure that everything works out," he added.
