Georgia, aided by imported players, beat Racquet-eers convincingly

The Georgia Tennis and Country Club fielded its best-created team against the unevenly talented Racquet-eers from Kingston. The match was played on Jamaica's only remaining grass tennis courts in the high-lands above Duncans, Trelawny, this last Saturday November 10, 2018. Over the last 16 years, this tournament has become a major event on Jamaica's sporting calendar.

Georgia won 54 games to 41. The host club, yet again, had improperly imported a number of non-parish players (mainly named 'Harris', to both play and cheer) of exceptional talent. Many of these, not surprisingly, had no idea in which parish Georgia Tennis Club was located.

James Ransome (Georgia tennis captain), led the victorious team of Tammy Hart, Marie Imbault, Bruce Hart, Ramon Vernon, Jeffrey Jensen, Carl Hendriks, Adam Harris, Andrew Harris,and Mark Harris. Bruce Hart, yet again, brought his dog - who bit an opposing player.

Tony Gambrill, (Racqueteers non-playing Coach and Manager) expressed surprise at the results and wondered aloud whether the absence of white chalk lines on the three courts had an unbalancing effect. The Racquet-eers team consisted of - Laura Tanna (an incredibly effective net player), Jenny Pragnell, Norman Marshall (Racquet-eers Tennis Captain), Merrick Marshall, Everton Morgan, Stephen Todd (their strongest player), Richard Gomes, Frankie Chalifour (of split-team alliances), Bernd Munthow-Pohl, and Asif Ahmad.

The custos of Trelawny, Paul Muschett, presided over the event and kept score in the absence of Colin Gallant, who normally comes down from Toronto to carry out this function with flair and honesty.

In an unusually combative moment, Custos Paul added, "The visiting team insisted on moving the match date to cause the loss of a number of our best players, who unfortunately had to attend the wedding of one of our long time supporters. We objected to your team coach forcefully taking one of our reserve players and inserting him into a game. Further, there was a lot of doubtful practice in the third set by the Racqueteers team coach while the scorer was away from the table..

This still led the visitors to lose three out of the four final matches played.It appears that due to the above, it was a good idea for the host team to draft some of our previous visitors to fill in the gaps left by the change of date."

Head of the EU delegation to Jamaica, Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska, observed the play closely to see how her two diplomatic colleagues performed and also to compare this renown Jamaican sporting event with those held in the EU.
