PLCA, PFAJ on collision course

President of the Harbour View Football Club and vice president of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA), Carvel Stewart, has come out strongly against a move by the Profession Football Association of Jamaica (PFAJ) to play the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) quarter-final and semi-final games at neutral venues.
  Stewart revealed that the PFAJ wants to improve the television product and encourage more fans, not just those of the teams in the play-offs, to come out and support the games. However, he said this move will be a big loss to clubs who usually get a financial boost from play-off games.
"We have been in dialogue but generally the clubs are not agreeing with it. The clubs want to maintain the arrangement of playing the quarters and the semis home and away and go to the National Stadium for the final.  The next meeting will be fairly soon but positions are being maintained on either side, as the clubs are not convinced as yet," he told the Gleaner.
Stewart warned that anything other than an agreed approach will not be good for the clubs and the game locally. 
  "I hope there is one (solution) that is good for the clubs, because anything that is good for the clubs is good for the league and good for football," he insisted.
  The PFAJ believes a neural venue will provide better viewing for television audiences. They are also of the view that more spectators will attend these games, because only six clubs will remain and there will be fans from the other clubs and elsewhere who will want to attend those matches.
