Dunbeholden rue missed chances

Dunbeholden FC were left to rue their luck after squandering the better chances in their 0-0 draw with second-placed Waterhouse in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at Royal Lakes yesterday.

Team manager Paul Christie said throughout the season, the St Catherine club has created as many chances as their opponents in games but just have not been as clinical, and against Waterhouse it was again their downfall.

"It was a cagey game," he said. "We played in spurts, but we got a few chances. We got the better looks during the game, but it is the same age-old problem where we are creating the chances, but when in front of goal, we are not composed enough.

"Waterhouse got one clear chance that our keeper saved, but we had about five (attempts) at Waterhouse and their 'keeper didn't even make a save. So that is the small difference that cost us three points," he said.

In a lacklustre first half, the hosts had the two best chances but neither Lorenzo Dubidad nor Devon Angel could make use of them.

After the break, Demareo Phillips, Jamar Rowe and Narado Brown also missed great chances to put the home team ahead.

Tremaine Stewart was Waterhouse's biggest threat, putting a free kick just over the bar in the first half and then rattled the bar from another set-piece in the second half. Andre McFarlane also came close with a low strike for the visitors.

Although they failed to take the three points, Christie was pleased with the point nevertheless, and took a lot of positives away from the game in their fight against relegation.

Satisfied

"A point is better than none. We would have loved the three points, but we will take one. The good things is that we are playing with some spirit and we are playing for the entire 90 minutes.

We are still not getting the finishing aspect, but during the course of the week, we will be putting in some finishing drills and see if that can matriculate into the games so we can get the results.

But we are seeing the other good things, we are just not finishing," he said.

Waterhouse assistant coach Lamar Morgan said Dunbeholden did not allow them to play their game.

"They made it difficult for us. In terms of playing how we wanted, they didn't give us the chance to play, but a point from home, we will take it," he said.
