Waterhouse defeated 10-man Real Hope of Haiti 2-0 in the second round of games in the FLOW Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship at the Stadium East field yesterday.

First-half goals from captain Keithy Simpson and Stephen Williams gave the Marcel Gayle-coached team their first win after two matches.

The result temporarily put the Drewsland-based team atop of the standings with four points ahead of the late game between Portmore United and AS Capoise, which could see the Red Stripe Premier League champions regain the lead with a win.

Waterhouse’s assistant coach, Daniel Bent, said that after going 2-0 up in the first half, like they did in the first game, where they gave up two second-half goals and had to settle for a draw, they were wary of a repeat and ensured that they saw out the match.

“We are elated about the three points. We got two goals, and we did not concede any in the second half and that was what let us down in the first game,” Bent said.

“We now have four points, and we are confident that come Thursday (tomorrow), we can top the championship,” he added.

Waterhouse jumped into the lead 19 minutes into the contest when Simpson headed home from a short corner.

They added a second in the 36th minute when Williams ran on to a through ball and scored past Valendi Odelus in the Real Hope goal.

Five minutes after the break, the Haitians lost a player when captain Dunel Blaise received a second yellow card.

Real Hope coach, General Pierre, thought his team got a raw deal from the match officials.

“I am not satisfied. Only the referee and assistant referee can explain the first goal, but we will fight for third,” Pierre said.
