Wadadah determined to get it right in RSPL play-offs

Despite only managing a point at home on Wednesday evening, when they drew 0-0 with Vere FC at Jarrett Park in their first game of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) play-offs, coach of Wadadah FC,Daniel Ricketts, said they are determined to get it right this time around and return to top-flight football.

Last season, the former national champions had a humiliating run in the RSPL playoffs, where they failed to pick up a point in eight games.

“We didn’t want just a point, we wanted all three, but we got one, so we have to be grateful and move on from here. Normally, in previous campaigns, we didn’t start with a point, so we just have to take it from here, learning from our mistakes and play better,” Ricketts said.

“I saw a lot of negatives, more negatives than positives, which we have to try and correct as quickly as possible. Not to mention them now, but I think on Friday (during training), we have to sort them out,” he added.

“I think the killer instinct should have been there from long time. At the end of the day, this is the play-offs, this is what we played for, and now we are here. I’ll have to make some decisions going forward, some that some players might not like, but it must be done,” the coach added.

WESTERN TEAM

Ricketts further noted that with no western team in the nation’s top-flight league, they have their eyes set on seizing the opportunity, and winning home games is key to doing so.

“We have to get it right this time around because as you know, there is no other team from the western region in the Premier League following the relegation of Montego Bay United and Reno.

“We are determined to be one of the qualifiers this time around,” said Ricketts, who captained Wadadah the last time they were in the Premier League.

“This year, I think the guys are a little more experienced, for one. Secondly, they have now realised it’s not a joking matter. It is something that we have to take seriously, and if you lose at home then that is a great loss because you have to take the points at home and hope to get something on the road,” he added.

Wadadah will face St Thomas’ Baptiste Alliance today at 3:30 p.m. at Wes Pow Park.
