Fraser-Pryce eases into 200m final at PanAm Games

LIMA, Peru:

Medal favourite Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce booked her ticket to the Women’s 200m final at the Pan American Games at the Videna Sports Village this afternoon with an easy win in her heat.

Fraser-Pryce was unchallenged the entire way, clocking 22.90 seconds ahead of Ecuador’s Angela Tenorio (23.16) and Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino (23.40).

“It wasn’t smooth, the corner was definitely different. It funny, but I’m just happy that I was able to qualify for the next round and give myself an opportunity to race again,” Fraser-Pryce told The Gleaner.

Schilloni Calvert-Powell did not make it through her semi-final, finishing fourth in 23.46 seconds.

On the men’s side, Julian Forte was fourth in 21.18 seconds  and missed the final. Andre Ewers, however, squeezed in with the fastest losing time, clocking 20.69 seconds for third, in his semi-final.

“I feel good about the race,” Ewers said. “I executed to the best of my capabilities and I’m planning to bring more fire in the final.”

Fraser-Pryce will be in action again in the final tomorrow at 4:15 p.m., while Ewers takes to his blocks at 4:30 p.m.
