Herediano hold Waterhouse to 1-1 stalemate

Waterhouse FC and CS Herediano of Costa Rica played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Concacaf League match at the National Stadium this evening.

It was the home team, Waterhouse, who gained the early ascendency, and that early pressure would pay an immediate dividend as Steven Williams sent in a delightful right-sided cross which striker Andre Fletcher latched on to and slotted home to make it 1-0 after just three minutes.

CS Herediano then got into the game and began to string some passes together which forced the Waterhouse team on the back foot.

That constant pressure would force a hamstring injury to Waterhouse defender Shaun Dewar, who was substituted for Shawn Lawes in the 10th minute.

Seven minutes after the substitution, the visitors would get back on level terms, as an error by goalkeeper Akeen Chambers allowed defender Keyner Brown to find the back of the net.

The teams would trade attacks for the rest of the half, however, neither were able to add to the score as they went into the break locked at 1-1.

In the second half, it was the CS Herediano team who came out more purposeful and looked like getting the go-ahead goal.

They came close on minute 60 when midfielder Freddy Alvarez fired a stinging left-sided shot which was well saved by Chambers in the Waterhouse goal.

Waterhouse would get a few looks at goal themselves, however errant finishing from striker Colorado Murray and excellent defending by the Costa Ricans kept the home team from adding to their tally.
