Williams hearing set for September 23-25, sprinter to miss World Championships

Young Jamaican sprinter Briana Williams will certainly miss the World Championships in Doha, after it was decided, after Monday's preliminary proceedings at the Jamaica Pegasus, that she will face the Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (IADP) on September 23, 24 and 25. 

Williams, tested positive for the banned diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), at the National Senior Championships in June and with the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) set to announce the team to Doha tomorrow and considering Sunday's deadlines for submission to the IAAF, there is no way that the World Under-20 100m and 200m champion will be able to compete at the September 27 - October 8 championships.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the IADP, Kent Gammon, told reporters that Monday case management process went well.

"We had a smooth process, we are ok with the process today and we are ready to proceed on the 23rd," said Gammon.

Gammon will be joined on the three-member panel by Dr Marjorie Vassell and Ms Denise Forrest.

Williams has through her representative Dr Emir Crowne, pointed to a contaminated over-the-counter cold and flu medication as the source of the substance.

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) will be represented by Ian Wilkinson QC.
