Former Boys’ Town head coach Andrew Price says that the southern St Andrew club is still awaiting a compensation package from Belgian outfit Sporting Charleroi after their acquisition of forward Shamar Nicholson last month.

The 22-year-old Reggae Boyz striker came up through the ranks at Boys’ Town and made the move to Slovenian club NK Domzale on a free transfer two years ago.

Nicholson made 47 appearances for NK Domzale, scoring 18 goals, before he was sold to Sporting Charleroi for a fee of €1.5 million.

Price, who played an instrumental role in helping Nicholson to secure the deal, said that Boys’ Town will receive “training compensation” in short order but he was unable to say how much they will collect.

A compensation package is due to Boys’ Town, the club that trained the player from age 12 to 21.

“It is something that is worked out by FIFA, and so we will know how much the club will get after they have done their calculations. So they are working on it, and we are awaiting the notification,” he said.

Price pointed out that the club is also receiving assistance from the Jamaica Football Federation’s competition committee, which is helping to sort out the compensation on the behalf of Boys’ Town.

He indicated that it was never about the money when Nicholson decided to sign with NK Domzale on free transfer because it was an opportunity for him develop his craft in Europe.

“We are more about the development of the player than anything else, and I know one of our aims was to get Shamar out of Jamaica so he could continue his development, and look at where he is now,” Price said. “A lot of clubs in Jamaica wanted him, but I decided that whenever Shamar leaves Boys’ Town, it must be to an overseas club, and that is what we did.”
