SUPERLUMINAL (second right), ridden by Omar Walker, finishes ahead of BRUCE WAYNE and DONTAE to take the Fontainbleu Trophy at Caymanas Park yesterday.

SUPERLUMINAL used his proven class to turn back five Anthony Nunes runners, including Triple Crown winner SUPREME SOUL, in the seven-and-a-half furlong Fontainbleu Trophy, leaving the leading trainer winless on the 10-race card yesterday.

SUPREME SOUL, who, surprisingly, returned for the Fontainbleu after finishing down the track in the 10-furlong Superstakes two weeks ago, broke well but was relegated to third, tracking stablemate BRUCE WAYNE and SUPERLUMINAL.

Running with an eight-pound weight swing on SUPREME SOUL, who had outfinished him, a month ago, in the Mark My Word Trophy at nine furlongs and 25 yards, SUPERLUMINAL pulled ahead of BRUCE WAYNE entering the straight.

SUPREME SOUL, pushed by Shane Ellis to keep pace, had no response and again finished outside the frame as SUPERLUMINAL flashed home in 1:31.1, the exact he time had clocked at the distance in March.

Nunes’ BRUCE WAYNE, third behind ANOTHER BULLET in the grade-one six-furlong Caribbean Sprint on Superstakes Day, continued his good form by staying on for second, beaten by a length and a half by SUPERLUMINAL.

Despite having 16 runners on the 10-race card, including favourites in the first three events, Nunes failed to register a winner, whereas champion Wayne DaCosta continued to whittle away at his rival’s stakes lead, saddling the winner of the opening event, ROYAL AVIATOR.

Apprentice Kiaman McGregor rode two winners, 20- shocker SHE’S IRIE, in the second at nine furlongs and 25 yards, and 6-5 favourite SWEET DESTINY, for leading owner Carlton Watson, in the eighth.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
