Even as he continues to build on proven media mastery as co-host of Television Jamaica’s morning magazine show ‘Smile Jamaica’, Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell is solidifying his position among the most influential and beloved Jamaican sports figures.

His natural ease with diverse groups of people and a ready, biting wit have coupled with his coaching acumen to make Bell a worthy awardee of the 2019 CB Group-UWI 5K. The presentation will take place on Sunday at the Scholarship fundraising event at the Mona Campus. Bell joins a distinct group of Jamaican achievers who have received this award, including Olympians Omar McLeod and Asafa Powell; head coach of Racers Track Club Glen Mills (the first such honouree in 2012); netball administrator Molly Rhone; former Jamaica Olympic Association president Mike Fennell; and Managing Director, Running Events Limited managing director Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis.

The fundraising run, which attracted over 5,000 participants last year, will again be under the professional direction of Francis and his team from Running Events Limited. The event has raised $70 million so far. To date, over 250 students have received scholarships to pursue tertiary education.
